Nouns Fest 2024

Held October 10th, 2024, at the iconic United Theater in Downtown L.A., this multi-day festival brought together over 600 attendees to experience 50 original animated shorts funded by a $1M+ grant pool. From claymation to puppetry, to experimental mixed media, Nouns Fest challenges creators to dream bigger and weirder, all while weaving in the quirky essence of Nouns NFTs. With no strings attached, animators retain full creative control and ownership of their work, making Nouns Fest a hotbed for innovation and artistic freedom. It’s more than just a festival—it’s a playground for boundary-pushing animation and the future of independent storytelling.

Creating Space for Animation Innovation

Nouns Fest selection and funding process

The Journey from Pitch to Premiere

We believe in removing barriers between creators and their vision. Our process is designed to be transparent, supportive, and focused on empowering animators to push creative boundaries while maintaining full ownership of their work.

Open Call

Creative freedom starts with accessibility. Our open submission process welcomes pitches from independent animators worldwide, ranging from established studios to emerging talent. Whether it's experimental animation, traditional techniques, or boundary-pushing concepts, we're here for it.

Selection

Our unique voting process evaluates submissions holistically, looking beyond just technical skill. We seek complete visions, non-traditional approaches, and a genuine passion for pushing animation forward. No creative restrictions.

Green Light

Selected projects receive direct funding with no creative strings attached. Unlike traditional funding models, we don't take ownership or impose creative direction. Your vision remains yours, supported by our resources and industry knowledge.

Support System

We become your creative enablers, not creative directors. Our team provides technical guidance, helps navigate legal considerations, and offers production support—all while ensuring you maintain complete creative control over your project.

Festival Debut

Your completed work premieres at a world-class venue, showcased alongside other boundary-pushing animations. This celebration connects you with fellow innovators, industry professionals, and animation enthusiasts who share our passion for independent storytelling.

Noun
Our goal was to help them execute their idea. We never pushed our opinion. We were there to support their teams.

The Nouns Fest Way

Supporting Vision,
Not Directing It

In the world of animation production, creative control often shifts when funding enters the picture. We flipped this model on its head. Our production team, led by Hannah Crabtree, developed a unique approach that prioritizes creator autonomy while providing comprehensive support.

Unlike traditional production models where funders influence creative direction, our team operates as mentors and enablers. We guide creators through technical challenges and provide resources—all while ensuring their original vision remains untouched.
From coordinating a $175,000 festival budget to supporting 50 creators, our production approach proves that meaningful support doesn't require creative control. Whether it's securing music rights, managing partnerships, or coordinating festival logistics, we focus on removing obstacles so creators can focus on what matters most: their art.
